SXSW affiliate plans 12-story office tower for corporate HQ

sxsw_logoPlans have been submitted for an office tower at 1400 Lavaca St. and public documents show that the developer is affiliated with South By Southwest. The property is described as a “corporate headquarters” in public records.

According to city documents, CZ Properties, an affiliate of South By Southwest, intends to demolish this building at 1400 Lavaca St. and build a 12-story corporate headquarters. …Read Entire Post

Developers line up for a chance to remake prime downtown Austin block

Austin Texas DowntownEight companies or partnerships have submitted proposals to transform the downtown block where the county had hoped to build a new courthouse, one of Austin’s most high-profile infill opportunities because the site could conceivably hold the tallest building in town.

Downtown novelty: $6M sky bridge to connect hotel, Austin Convention Center

A 33-foot, $6 million aerial walkway surrounded by foliage will connect the forthcoming Fairmont Austin hotel and the Austin Convention Center as part of a partnership between the hotel and a nature conservancy. Work recently began on the walkway and completion is estimated in May 2017.

The unique sky bridge was designed by New York-based Thomas Phifer and Partners. Along with Thomas Phifer and Partners, Michael Van Valkenburgh & Associates Inc. is also designing Waller Creek Conservancy’s revitalization of the 37-acre urban park. …Read Entire Post

Travis County puts prime downtown Austin block back on the market

After voters last November rejected a $292 million bond measure to fund new construction, county officials apparently decided to sell the highly coveted location — currently a surface parking lot at 308 Guadalupe St.

The 77,215-square-foot site is one of the few remaining vacant parcels in downtown Austin that’s available for significant development. A key element: The Capitol View Corridor will not hinder this site, which could allow for a 25:1 floor area ratio — a high density. New Houston company to expand on Congress Ave.

Houston-based Abel Design Group will open an office in the Texas capital this fall, an Abel Design spokesperson told the Houston Business Journal. The Houston office will remain open.

This is Abel Design’s first expansion outside Houston. The architecture firm hopes to launch the Austin office with between four and five employees, with plans to have 20 employees there in about a year, the spokesperson said. Company executives are looking at office space in downtown Austin, and are eyeing a property on Congress Avenue, but nothing is concrete. …Read Entire Post

HEB recently purchased the Twin Oaks Shopping Center on South Congress.

In a South Austin real estate deal, grocery chain H-E-B has purchased the Twin Oaks Shopping Center, a decades-old, ten-acre property at South Congress Ave. and Oltorf St. H-E-B closed on the purchase of the Twin Oaks center at 2315 S. Congress Ave.

H-E-B’s current store at South Congress and Oltorf was built in 1957. The company hasn’t commented on the store’s future after the grocery chain bought the ten-acre shopping center across South Congress Avenue from the store. …Read Entire Post
