 National Instruments
National Instruments, a pioneering technology company in Austin, plans to invest $80 million and add 1,000 technical and engineering jobs locally over the next 10 years to serve its steadily expanding business. The project was announced by the Texas governor’s office, which said the company will receive $4.4 million in incentives from the state-run Texas Enterprise Fund to close the deal.

 North Burnet/Gateway Master Plan
The first few projects are coming to life in the North Burnet/Gateway 2035 Master Plan area – a 2,300 acre area bordered by Metric Blvd., US 183, Braker Ln, MoPac and Walnut Creek. Leading the way is the TopGolf entertainment complex slated to open mid-April at Burnet Road and Esperanza Crossing.  12301 Research
Visa Inc. recently confirmed plans to create a major global information technology center in North Austin at the former Emerson Process Management building located at 12301 Research Blvd. The work to retrofit and equip the 175,000 square-foot building is expected to start soon and is estimated to cost $27.2 million. The center is projected to employ nearly 800 full-time workers by 2017.

Austin Rackers have a new home. Rackspace Hosting Inc., one of Austin’s top workplaces, now operates out of an 87,000 square-foot factility along I-35 in North Austin. The site, located next to Chevrolet dealership, may not be the most glitzy address but it provides adequate space for 500 workers with the opportunity to expand. Rackspace plans to hire 50 employees this year.

 Balcones Centre
Austin Telco Federal Credit Union recently purchased the Balcones Centre (75,422 sf) – a multi-tenant, Class A office building located at 11149 Research Blvd. in North Austin. Austin Telco will at some point in the future move its corporate offices which currently reside at 8929 Shoal Creek Blvd. into the Balcones Centre building.

New York-based Yodle Inc. recently opened its 100,000-square-foot office at Plaza 35 Business Park located at 12234 N IH-35 in north Austin. The move will accommodate employees from previous digs at 9300 United Drive but also allows room for anticipated growth – from 375 currently to more than 750 employees in the next five years.

Will Apple Inc. build a cutting-edge, architecturally stunning regional headquarters here in Austin? Will it be something akin to the gigantic spaceship-styled edifice it has planned at its world headquarters in Cupertino, Calif.?
I wouldn’t bet on it. In fact, it appears that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is planning to build two rather conventional office buildings on land it now owns near Parmer Lane and Delcour Drive in Northwest Austin.

 Metric 10 East
REOC Austin’s Rob Eaves and Jerry Heare, SIOR represented Flight Safety International Inc., an aviation training company, in their lease of 15,516 square feet of industrial space at Metric 10 East – a 97,200 square-foot industrial building located at 9701 Metric Blvd. Doug Thomas of Live Oak Gottesman represented the landlord.
Rumors about H&M opening a store in Austin have been swirling for months, but only now have been confirmed. A spokeswoman for Simon Property Group, which manages The Domain, said the Swedish apparel and accessories retailer is planning to open its first Austin store at the Northwest Austin shopping center and has already signed a lease. The store will be located in the former Z Gallerie space at 11401 Century Oaks Terrace,Ste.137, which is at the Esperanza Crossing intersection.

 13803 Quitman Pass
Rob Eaves of REOC Austin recently facilitated the lease of 13803 Quitman Pass. Oppenheimer Biotechnology, Inc. (OPI), a leader in bioremediation, recently leased the 3,870 square-foot industrial building in North Central Austin.
