GE Aviation picks Austin for tech hub

ge-aviationGE Aviation plans to open what the company calls a “digital collaboration center” in downtown Austin next week. The company, a division of Boston-based General Electric Co., is establishing the center above a technology company on 15th Street it acquired in 2012, officials said Friday.

The Austin center would be the fourth in a series of GE digital solutions centers that have opened this year in an effort “to bring the industrial world into the digital era,” according to a company statement. The others are in Paris, Shanghai and Dubai.

GE Aviation, which employs 44,000 employees, operates 84 facilities and posted annual revenue of $25 billion in 2015. The Austin office would be GE Aviation’s lone technology center in the United States.
