Austin claimed the coveted top spot for best overall real estate investment and development opportunities in the U.S. according to an Urban Land Institute report released Oct. 26.The survey incorporates rankings and opinions from 1,500 professionals involved in the real estate business. It’s conducted jointly by PwC, formerly PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Urban Land Institute.

Though real estate acquisition and development secures top billing, Austin drops considerably when it comes to opportunities for home builders. In that sector, the Austin area ranks No. 11, possibly reflecting the escalating costs of land, labor and development.

According to the report, Austin’s reputation comes at a price — with major transportation challenges tempering enthusiasm. Other factors of concern? The increasing costs of doing business and housing.
