$105M entertainment district headed to Hutto

Hutto City Council unanimously voted Thursday night to start negotiations with MA Partners to lead the redevelopment of the Co-Op District, near the intersection of Short Street and Highway 79. The district is centered around a repurposed former cotton gin that operated in the Williamson County town from 1938 to 2001.

Plans for the further redevelopment of the site could include offices, restaurants, a movie theater and a new city hall and police station. A draft site plan depicts a mixed-use facility surrounded by parking spaces. Construction is scheduled to start by early 2018.

Hutto, once a sleepy rural hamlet, has experienced rapid growth in recent years. From 2010 to 2014, its population grew 53 percent, one of the fastest rates in Texas.
