The St. Vincent de Paul nonprofit is consolidating its operations and retail services at a new site in North Austin near Braker Lane and Lamar Boulevard. The organization purchased a vacant grocery store on Braker Lane and sold valuable property it owned near South Congress Avenue and Gibson Street.

Though financial details of that transaction were not disclosed, public records indicate the new owner — Santo del Sur LLC — received a $5,250,000 loan to purchase the South Congress property, which includes a small retail building and warehouse and about a half acre of land.

Formally named the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul — Diocesan Council of Austin, the nonprofit will convert its new property at 901 W. Braker Lane into a multifaceted facility, which will include offices, a retail thrift store, a donation processing and storage area, a coffee shop, food pantry and computer lab. Surplus office space will be available for other nonprofits and organizations, which compliment the St. Vincent mission.

The site selection was conducted with assistance from brokers W. Gaines Bagby and Ace Schlameus of CBRE Group Inc. The seller of the Braker Lane property was Lu Grocery Center LP.

Other businesses involved with the Braker redevelopment project are Levy Architects, Emerson Group and Drolette Construction.
